Every so often a period of time dawns upon people that significantly change the way of life and respond to their surroundings forever. Once upon a time it was called Y2K.

Just last week CNN was able to "beam in" a hologram of a partially translucent, political correspondent, who was more than 700 miles away from their election center in New York, to have an update from the president-elect Obama's mega-rally in Chicago.

Whenever state and federal governments start talking about budget crunches, it seems the first place they want to make cuts is education.

At Riverside Community College District the cuts always seem to come from programs and classes, as well as proposed hikes in tuition fees.

As the War in Iraq may finally come to an end, under the new democratic leadership, students should seriously consider joining the United States Army, if they lack motivation, inspiration or the discipline that college requires.

I joined the U.S. Army in August of 2001 - in fact 12 days before the attacks of 9/11.

Ever walk into the Marketplace on a weekend morning thinking, "Oh dear God I hope I don't see that kid from last night!" Or how about, "I can't believe I sent that text message!" We have become a generation that "hooks up." Urbandictionary.com defines a hook-up as, "when people have sex, most of the time with no strings attached."

The Death of the Arts at Oxy

Few of you know me, as I'm a returning student, tying up some loose ends after an extended period of absence. I'm also an artist and arts curator. In my former stint at Oxy, I was hired by the ASOC to book bands, musicians, performers and DJs to perform on campus.

The word tolerance, is being thrown around all over the place but it seems like nobody knows its meaning anymore. The passing of Proposition 8 is one such example where people are oblivious to what tolerance really is.

Surprise surprise-I'm not referring to the supporters of the proposition.

Terrible tenures: watch out!

		Terrible tenures: watch out!

The Poly Post, Cal Poly Pomona, CA

It's hard enough worrying about getting the classes you need, so why should you have to put up with the bitter frustration of terrible tenures?

Like mold, they have grown into a smelly, spoiled representation of what teachers used to be.

The amount of time spent on campus doesn't equate to experience nor does it correlate with teaching abilities.

Plastic bags once symbolized the convenience and efficiency of the modern world, but as I traveled through Albania last year, these cheap shopping accessories left a different impression. Miles of them lined the roads and the railroad tracks, dominating the view and literally smothering the life out of the vegetation.

The Poly Post, Cal Poly Pomona, CA

If you think that graduating with a Bachelor's degree in four years is still a viable option here at Cal Poly, think again.

Classes are sparse, usually offered once per quarter, and seats are extremely limited.

Take, for example, a young communication major trying to fit in all the necessary courses required in the hopes of launching a graduation cap through the air in the near future.
